Firing in water tank on Indo-Nepal border, one arrested

Siliguri: The firing incident which took place late on Tuesday night in Gaursingjot of the Pantanki under the Indo-Nepal border of Khoribari created a commotion. On receiving the information, the police of Khoribari police station reached the spot and arrested one of the accused.

It is being informed that last night in Gaursingjot village of Panitanki, a youth named Sanjeev Barman made vulgar remarks on the name of the wife of local resident Anant Barman. Anant beat the young man after hearing vulgar remarks in the name of his wife. After which Sanjeev and his friends attack Anant’s in-laws house in search of Anant Burman for revenge. It is alleged that Sanjeev and his friends pushed the door of the house with a scooty, then forced their way into the house and ransacked it at gunpoint. This incident caused a huge sensation. When the villagers tried to stop Sanjeev and his accomplices, they fired in the air.

Khoribari police station and local panchayat member Krishna Rai reached the spot on getting the news. Police have seized a scooter in this incident. At the same time, Satyen Burman, a friend of accused Sanjeev Burman, was arrested. The police of Ghoribari police station have started an investigation into the incident. The members of the panchayat have demanded strict punishment to the culprits.
