FIR lodged against social media user for saying bad things about Captain Anshuman Singh’s widow Smriti Singh

New Delhi. Delhi Police has registered an FIR against a social media user who made ‘obscene and derogatory’ comments on Smriti Singh, the widow of Kirti Chakra award winner (posthumous) Captain Anshuman Singh. The police have taken this action on the complaint of the National Commission for Women (NCW).

The IFSO (Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation) unit of Delhi Police has registered a case. In this, relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and Information Technology (IT) Act have been imposed. The social media user is a resident of Delhi. He has been charged under Section 79 of the BNS (insulting the modesty of a woman by his words, gestures, or actions) and Section 67 of the IT Act (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).

National Commission for Women took suo motu cognizance of Smriti Singh case

The social media user had made dirty comments about Smriti Singh. NCW took suo motu cognizance of the matter. A complaint was filed on Monday and the Delhi Police Commissioner was written to arrest the accused. NCW had sought a report in three days.

Captain Anshuman Singh died in July last year

Let us tell you that Captain Anshuman Singh died in July last year. He was a doctor. He died due to fire in the ammunition depot of the Indian Army. He was posted as a medical officer with 26 Punjab in the Siachen Glacier area. At the time of the accident, Anshuman Singh saved some people. He went to the medical investigation room to take out an important medical aid box. There was a fire there too. Due to the fierce fire amid strong winds, he could not take out the medical aid box. He died in this attempt.

For this bravery, Captain Anshuman Singh was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra. This is the second-highest peacetime gallantry award. His widow Smriti Singh and his mother Manju Singh received the award from President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 5.
