Yashpal Ahuja, Secretary of the City Development Trust, performed Bhoomi Poojan amid Vedic chants and started the work by laying the first brick.

Beneficiary Ranjit expressed his gratitude to the district collector and the administration for this initiative and said that the efforts of the district collector have brought a radical change in his life. They have got the right to lead a dignified life. His life was very painful for almost two and a half decades. Living in the slums of Sriganganagar Road was no less than a challenge every moment. He said that all basic facilities like water, electricity, roads and community toilets have been provided by the district administration in Chakgarbi. Also, a government school has been approved here, so that the children will get good education. Community building built here will prove beneficial for their social activities.

It is worth mentioning that on the initiative of the District Collector, 800 families living in slums in different areas of the city were shifted here and all kinds of facilities were provided. This is an innovative model across the country. The standard of living of the people will be further improved by the construction of paved houses here.
