Exams 2023: Only 60 students caught cheating in March board exams in state, CCTV checks busted

Gandhinagar: As much as CCTVs are becoming useful for the police in detecting crimes, they are also becoming useful in tracking down students who have cheated in the Gujarat Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Class 10 and 12 examinations. During the 12th standard general and science stream and 10th standard examinations held in March 2023, 60 students were caught cheating in the examination by invigilators, invigilators or flank scorers. But after the exam, 1130 students were caught cheating by checking the CCTV of the class. Out of total 1190 students, 7 students were caught with mobile phones and a criminal case was registered against them by the board while the results of all 1190 students were suspended by sending notices to other students.

In March 2023 exams conducted by Gujarat Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, the number of students committing copy cases on the spot is very less but after checking the CCTV installed in the examination hall, the number of students committing copy cases has increased. Further, class 10 students are caught cheating more while class 12 science students are less.

How many students of which class were caught?

  • A total of 788 students were caught cheating in class 10. 29 students were caught cheating on the spot.
  • 759 students caught cheating in cctv investigation
  • A total of 367 students were caught cheating in 12 general streams.
  • 22 students in class 12 general stream were caught cheating on the spot
  • 345 students of class 12 were caught cheating in CCTV investigation
  • A total of 35 students were caught cheating in class 12 science
  • 9 students in 12th science were caught cheating on the spot
  • 26 students of 12 sciences were caught cheating in CCTV investigation

Officials of the Gujarat Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education are claiming that the number of cheating cases in examinations has reduced after the introduction of CCTV verification to detect cases of cheating. Earlier 2500 and 2000 cases of counterfeiting were reported, now it has increased to 1100. Students caught cheating will be tried and then punished. Students caught with mobile phones are not allowed to appear for 2 years and are also punished with criminal offences. While in other cases the punishment ranges from one subject to cancellation of result of all subjects.
