Recep Tayyip Erdogan has once again won the presidential election in Turkey. He has won the presidential election for the 11th time by defeating the opposition leader Kemal Kalchdarlu. In the run-off of the second round of the election, Erdogan won a majority and was defeated by Kamal Kalchdarlu. With this, Erdogan has returned once again. According to media reports, Erdogan got 52% of the votes in this round while Kalkadarlu got only 48% of the votes.

Actually, the first phase of voting for the presidential election took place on 14 May. Erdogan, the then head of the AKP (Justice and Development Party), won the election in the first round, receiving 49.4% of the vote. While his rival Kalachdarlu got 45 per cent votes. The two leaders failed to secure a majority for the second round of elections on Sunday.

In Turkey, if no candidate receives a clear majority, a run-off round is held between the two candidates who receive the most votes within two weeks. The second round of voting in Turkey was to be held on 28 May.

Erdogan was president for 20 years
