Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, after inspecting the Dwarka Expressway, said that the project is likely to be completed in 3-4 months and will be opened before December. The country’s first elevated urban expressway will ease traffic congestion between Delhi-Gurugram. Nitin Gadkari said that the total cost of this project is Rs. 9000 crores and the work is 75-90 percent complete. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, Union Ministers of State VK Singh and Rao Indrajit Singh, MPs Parvesh Singh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri were also present during the inspection.
Expressway features
Country’s first elevated 8-lane access control expressway of 29 km length with 34 m wide single pillar 18.9 km long in Haryana and 10.1 km long in Delhi is being constructed.
The toll collection on the Dwarka Expressway will be fully automated and equipped with a fully integrated Integrated Transport System (ITS).
– The road network of this expressway consists of four levels – tunnel, underpass, grade road, elevated road and flyover under construction.
A 3-lane service road is to be built on both sides of the expressway and the country’s widest 3.6 km long 8-lane tunnel is being built in Delhi.
This will improve the connectivity of the people of Haryana and West Delhi to Indira Gandhi International Airport. In Haryana, this expressway intersects Pataudi Road SH-26 near Harsaru and Farukhnagar (SH-15A) near Basai.
– It will also cross Gurgaon Sector-88 (B) and UER-2 near Bharathal in Delhi-Rewari railway line. Gurgaon Sector-88, 83, 84, 99, 113 of Expressway will be connected to Global City with Dwarka Sector-21.
The work will be completed in four packages
Nitin Gadkari said that the expressway work will be completed in four packages, which will start from Expressway National Highway No. 8 near Shiv Murthy in Delhi’s Mahipalpur. First package from Mahipalpur Shivamurthy to Dwarka (about 60 percent complete), second package from Dwarka Urban Extension Road to Bajghera (about 82 percent complete), third package from Bajghera to Basai Rail Overbridge (about 93 percent complete) and fourth package from Bassi ROB to National Rail Overbridge. (About 93 percent complete). No. 8 for Highway includes Toll Plaza (about 99 percent complete) near Kherki-Daula village, Gurugram.
First elevated urban expressway
The 29 km long Dwarka Expressway is the country’s first elevated urban expressway. In which the first Singer Pillar flyover has been made of eight lanes. With the completion of this expressway, the journey from Dwarka to IGI Airport will take around five minutes and will make commuting easier for the residents of Gurgaon.
