Kanpur: The effect of El Nino, a warm current in the Pacific Ocean, is visible this season, due to which the monsoon is currently running with a delay of six days. Monsoon may also weaken with delay if the warm current has more impact. In such a situation, the farmer brothers are being advised not to hurry in sowing Kharif crops and to carry out the sowing operation quickly only after the onset of monsoon. Meteorologist Dr. Chandrasekhar Azad Agricultural Technology University. SN Sunil Pandey said this on Monday.
He said monsoon rains are most important for farmers in India as farmers’ kharif crops are almost entirely dependent on monsoon rains. The southwest monsoon begins in India between 29 May and 1 June and reaches the Kerala monsoon, but this season is characterized by warm currents over the Pacific Ocean. Due to this, monsoon is likely to reach the Kerala coast on June 4 with a delay of seven days. However, whether it will be delayed further will depend on the effect of El Nino, a warm current over the Pacific Ocean.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, monsoon is likely to reach Kerala by June 4 this year. Which can be four days back and forth. On the other hand, according to a private agency, this year, the South-West Monsoon may begin in Kerala from June 07. This is likely to be three days ahead or behind.
He said that in view of these weather activities, farmers are advised not to rush in sowing Kharif crops. If sowing is done like last year, farmers are likely to suffer more losses. So keep an eye on the weather forecast.
