Indian President Draupadi Murmu is leaving on a two-nation tour early next month. He will visit Suriname and Serbia next month. The Ministry of External Affairs has given this information on Monday. This will be Draupadi Murmu’s first official foreign visit after assuming office in July-2022. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the President will visit Suriname from June 4 to 6 at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Suriname, Chandrika Prasad Santokhi.

Draupadi Murmu will hold bilateral talks with the President in Suriname

According to the ministry, Draupadi Murmu will hold bilateral talks with Santokhi in Suriname and attend the 150th anniversary celebrations of the arrival of Indians in the country as the chief guest. It is worth mentioning that on June 5-1873, the first ship carrying 452 Indian laborers reached Parmaribo, the capital of Suriname. Most of these laborers were from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Will interact with the Indian community in Suriname

The Ministry of External Affairs said President Murmu will visit places of historical and cultural importance in Suriname and interact with members of the Indian community. President Draupadi Murmu’s visit to Suriname will be her first political visit since assuming office last year. Santokhi visited India as a guest of the 17th Tourist India Day in January this year and met Murmu.

There will be a bilateral meeting between Draupadi Murmu and the President of Serbia

Draupadi Murmu will visit the Republic of Serbia from June 7 at the invitation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in the second leg of her visit, the Ministry of External Affairs said. According to the ministry, the bilateral meeting between Draupadi Murmu and President Vucic will take place in Serbia and Prime Minister N. Barnabeek and Speaker of the National Assembly Vladimir Orlik.
