Dominica’s Highest National Honour to PM Narendra Modi:  The government of the Caribbean country Dominica has said that it will honour Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the country’s highest national award ‘The Dominica Award of Honour’ this month. This award is being given to Prime Minister Modi for Modi’s contribution to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengthening the partnership between the two countries. 

PM Modi will get Dominica’s highest honour

The Prime Minister’s Office of Dominica said in a statement that Dominica Commonwealth President Sylvanie Berton will present the award during the India-CARICOM summit to be held in Georgetown, Guyana from November 19 to 21. The statement said, “In February 2021, Prime Minister Modi supplied 70,000 doses of AstraZeneca, a vaccine to protect against COVID-19, to Dominica – a heartwarming gift that enabled Dominica to support its other Caribbean neighbours. The award also recognizes India’s support to Dominica in healthcare, education and information technology under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, as well as his role in promoting climate-friendly construction initiatives and sustainable development globally, the statement said.

 

Corona vaccine was sent to Dominica.

The statement quoted Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit as saying that the award is an expression of Dominica’s gratitude towards Prime Minister Modi’s solidarity with Dominica and the wider region. In the statement, Skerrit said, “Prime Minister Modi has been a true partner of Dominica, especially in our time of need amid the global health crisis. It is an honour to award him Dominica’s highest national honour as a symbol of our gratitude for his support and as a reflection of the strong ties between our countries. We look forward to furthering this partnership and advancing our shared vision of progress and resilience.”
