reserve Bank of India: The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the notification to exchange 2000 rupee notes without filling the slip and without identity proof. A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Kumar Sharma and Justice Subramaniam Prasad dismissed the petition. The petition challenged the notification of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and SBI, which allowed exchange of Rs 2,000 notes without filling a slip and without proof of identity.

Defending the RBI notification
Petitioner and advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay said that a large number of these notes have either reached the treasuries of individuals or are in the hands of separatists, terrorists, Maoists, drug traffickers, mining mafia and corrupt people. The petition states that the notification is arbitrary, irrational and violative of Article 14 of the Constitution. The RBI defended its notification in the High Court, saying it was not demonetisation, but a legal action. With this, now the facility of changing 2000 rupee notes without filling the slip and without showing the identity card will continue.

Significantly, in Upadhyay’s application, it has been said that according to the central government, every family has an Aadhaar card and a bank account. Why is RBI allowing exchange of Rs 2000 notes without ID proof?

The petition filed in the High Court has sought an order to the Reserve Bank and the State Bank to ensure that Rs 2,000 notes are deposited only in the respective bank accounts. It can identify those with black money and disproportionate assets. The process of exchanging Rs 2000 notes has started in banks from May 23. Earlier, on May 19, the Reserve Bank had announced the closure of 2000 rupee notes. Please tell here that you can change the note of 2000 rupees from the bank till 30 September.
