Dispensary at Smashanbhoomi in Vasai

Mumbai: The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has opposed the establishment of a primary health center in the Sativali graveyard itself. A health center has been opened there after vacating a godown to store cremation wood.

Expressing displeasure against this move of the municipality, the local citizens said that the patients coming for treatment at the health center have to suffer from the smoke emitted by the burning of dead bodies in the crematorium. Others throw garbage near the gate of the health center. Hence due to this dirt there is more threat to the health of the patients.

High-rise buildings have been constructed on several plots of land reserved for hospitals, schools, playgrounds and markets by the Vasai-Virar Municipality. Then comes the turn to open a health center inside the municipal crematorium. This has been alleged by the local people.

An official of the health department of the Vasai-Virar municipality said that there is nothing wrong in starting a health center inside the crematorium. We have built a wall between us.
