The election of the Delhi Mayor will be held on 14th November. This decision has been taken on the orders of the current Mayor Shaili Oberoi. Shaili had made it clear last week that the election of Delhi Mayor will be held in November. The mayoral election has not been held in Delhi for the last six months. Earlier, attempts have been made to hold the election, but due to various disturbances, the election could not be completed.
The order of the Delhi Mayor reads, “The postponed April (2024) meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be held on Thursday, 14th November 2024 at 02.00 pm at Aruna Asaf Ali Auditorium, ‘A’ Block, 4th Floor, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Centre, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, New Delhi. The ordinary November (2024) meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the postponed January (2024), May (2024), June (2024), July (2024), August (2024) and September (2024) meetings will also be held on the same day and at the same place at 03.00 pm, 3.15 pm, 3.30 pm, 3.45 pm, 4.00 pm, 4.15 pm and 4.30 pm respectively.”

On October 28, Mayor Shaili Oberoi, while adjourning the current session, announced that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) mayoral election would be held during the House meeting next month. The mayoral election has been pending for nearly six months. Soon after Oberoi arrived in the House, opposition party councillors raised slogans over issues like pollution and delay in the mayoral election, leading to a ruckus. The councillors had demanded the holding of the mayoral election, which is reserved for a Dalit candidate for a third term and has been pending since April.
Amid the uproar, Oberoi had said, “Be assured that elections will be held in the next meeting. Right now we should focus on the agenda for discussion.” However, when opposition councillors continued to raise objections, Oberoi passed several resolutions and adjourned the House till the next meeting. Due to the late arrival of the mayor, the proceedings of the House started 45 minutes late from the scheduled time of 11 am, which was opposed by many councillors.
