Cyclone Mocha latest updates: ‘Mocha’ has turned into a severe cyclone, heavy rains are likely in some states

India Weather Forecast: Cyclone Mocha, which started in the Andaman Sea, has turned into a severe cyclone. The cyclone is currently located about 700 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar. In the last 6 hours, this cyclone is moving slowly towards North-East at a speed of 10 km per hour. The cyclone is likely to cross the coast between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyopyu (Myanmar) around noon today. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned that this storm will hit the coast very quickly.

Cyclonic storm ‘Mocha’ will hit the coast very quickly

Wind speed has increased. Hence, the storm (Cyclone Mocha) may weaken slightly before making landfall. However, the storm is likely to hit the coast with winds of 160 kmph to 180 kmph. After crossing the coast, the intensity of the storm will decrease. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rain is likely over coastal areas of West Bengal, Odisha, Bangladesh and Myanmar today.

 

Meanwhile, Andaman and Nicobar Islands received light to moderate rain over rest of the country on Saturday. South Kerala, Manipur, Lakshadweep, Coastal Kerala, Interior Karnataka and South Maharashtra also received light rain. On the other hand, weather is likely to remain dry and hot over most parts of North India, including Delhi-NCR. Heat wave conditions were also observed in western Rajasthan and parts of Saurashtra and Kutch.

Rain may occur in these states today

Light to moderate rain is likely over Northeast India from today till May 16. Thunderstorm is likely at many places over Tripura and Mizoram today. On May 14 and 15, Nagaland, Manipur and South Assam may experience heavy rain at isolated places. East Assam and Arunachal Pradesh may receive moderate to heavy rains between May 14 and 16.

There is a possibility of dust storms in the capital Delhi

As for Delhi NCR, thunderstorms and dust storms are likely to occur in many areas today. Apart from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, Delhi and parts of West Uttar Pradesh will also experience similar weather conditions. Light to moderate rain is likely over Western Himalayas. Light snowfall may occur in higher hilly areas. Heat wave may prevail in parts of Gujarat, West Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. One or two moderate rains are likely over Kerala, South Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
