Constable opened fire at a school in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, killing a student

A boy student was killed and seven other girl students were injured when an on-duty police constable opened fire at a school in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday (May 16).

The incident took place in the Swat Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after the school holidays for girls when the girl students were preparing to go home. According to the report, District Police Officer Shafiullah Gandapur said that the accused has been identified as Constable Alam Khan and an FIR has been registered against him.

The culprits will be given strict punishment according to the law- DPO

A district police officer in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said a special investigation team has been formed to probe the matter. I assure everyone that the culprits will be given strict legal punishment. Shafiullah Gandapur told that the accused is a resident of Salampur area and has been suspended from the police force twice.

Alam Khan was reinstated in the police department last year and was posted outside the school for security 3 months ago. He said that the injured have been taken to Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital and emergency has been imposed in the hospital.

A girl injured in the attack told local media that as soon as she came out of the school gate, the assailants started firing indiscriminately at her van. All the school children got scared and started shouting after which people gathered.

After receiving information about the firing incident, KP Inspector General Akhtar Hayat Gandapur took stock of the situation on the spot, while Malakand Regional Police Officer Nasir Mehmood Dasti, DPO Gandapur and Swat Deputy Commissioner Ifranullah Wazir rushed to the hospital to attend to the injured. A statement issued by the Swat Police said that RPO Malakand has directed the hospital authorities to ensure better treatment of the injured girls.
