Chinese fishing boat Lu Peng Yuan Yu 028 has capsized in the Indian Ocean. The boat capsized on Tuesday.
At the time of the incident, there were 39 people on board, including 17 Chinese crew members, 17 Indonesian crew members and 5 Filipino crew members. Although the search team has started the investigation after reaching the spot, but all 39 people are missing. Meanwhile, search and rescue efforts are on.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, upon learning of the incident, issued an important directive to immediately activate the emergency response system. China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and the Shandong provincial government have all been directed to assess the situation, increase the number of rescue personnel, and coordinate international search and rescue efforts.
In addition, the Chinese Foreign Ministry and relevant embassies overseas have also been instructed to coordinate with local authorities and assist in search and rescue operations.
According to one estimate, China has the largest number of fishing boats and sometimes they work at sea for months or even years. Fishing business plays a major role in the economy of this country.
