CCTV will be installed in border villages of Punjab, government sanctioned twenty crores

Chandigarh, May 17 (Hindustan). The Punjab government has decided to install CCTV cameras to further strengthen security in the border areas. Bhagwant Maan government for this Rs. 20 crores have been sanctioned. It has been decided to activate Village Security Committees to prevent nexus between smugglers and criminals in the border areas.

Punjab Special DGP Arpit Shukla said on Wednesday that to keep a close eye on the movement of smugglers across the border, the Punjab government has committed Rs 20 crore to install CCTVs at strategic locations in border villages. He said that DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav has also announced a reward of Rs one lakh to anyone who helps in the recovery of arms and narcotics through drones.

Four DIGs and four Commandants of BSF including DIG Border Range Narinder Bhargava and DIG Ferozepur Range Ranjit Singh Dhillon were also present in the meeting. Special DGP Arpit Shukla said that the two security forces should work together and be in better coordination to counter drone operations along Punjab’s borders. He also stressed on the need for evidence-based and proactive policing to curb cross-border smuggling of drugs and arms into Punjab.

The Special DGP asked the SSPs of border districts to strengthen and equip the police force from the security point of view. He also discussed strategic locations and hotspots in border villages to install CCTV cameras to track Indian nationals involved in cross-border smuggling. He asked the BSF officials to share information about the movement of suspects with the Punjab Police so that they can keep a close watch on their movements.

He also proposed activation of Village Security Committees to prevent nexus between smugglers and criminals in border areas. Special DGP Arpit Shukla said these committees will act as the eyes and ears of the police to help the Punjab police eliminate drugs, terrorists and gangsters from the border state.
