Car collides with bus in Karnataka’s Mysore district, 10 passengers killed

Bengaluru, May 29 (Hindustan Times). 10 commuters died on the spot after a car collided with a private bus at a bend on the Mysore-Kollegal main road in Karnataka’s Mysore district on Monday. President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah have expressed grief over the tragedy.

The incident took place at around 2.15 pm on Monday when the tourists were going from Mysore to Male Mahadeshwar Hill. When his Toyota Innova reached Pinjarapole Society in Kurubur village, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which collided with the bus. According to the police, all the 10 people were residents of Bellary district and had gone to a tourist spot in Mysore. The dead included some children, but most were middle-aged.

Teams of T Narsipur Police and Fire Brigade reached the spot as soon as the information about the accident was received. Preliminary investigation revealed that there were four men, one youth, three women and two children in the car. Police have not confirmed the identities of the victims of the accident as of press time. The accident was recorded in the dash camera of the bus.

A police official said the bodies were badly bruised, making it challenging to determine the exact number of people in the car. He said it appears the driver of the car was speeding.

President Draupadi Murmu said that it was very sad to hear the news of this incident. Children have also died in road accidents in Mysore. My condolences to the bereaved family. I pray to God for speedy recovery of the injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he is deeply saddened by this incident. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their near and dear ones. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. The Prime Minister has announced a compensation of two lakhs from the PM Fund to the families of the deceased. Along with this, he has also announced compensation for the injured.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

He tweeted, “Saddened by the unfortunate accident near T Narsipura in Mysore district, in which 10 people lost their lives. A compensation of Rs 2 lakh each will be given to the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. I have directed the authorities concerned to ensure proper treatment of the injured.”
