Big relief to Imran Khan, court extends stay on arrest till May 31

A Pakistan court has extended till May 31 its order staying the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan in any case registered after May 9.

The Islamabad High Court took the decision after the government’s counsel sought time to know about the cases filed against Imran Khan. During this, Khan was present in the court. His party has claimed that there are more than 100 cases registered against Imran across the country. The court accepted the appeal of the public prosecutor and adjourned the hearing till May 31.

In a major relief to Imran Khan, the court granted him protective bail for two weeks in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case and ordered authorities to arrest the former Pakistan prime minister in any case registered anywhere in the country till May 15. Ordered. The court’s decision came a day after the Supreme Court declared Khan’s dramatic arrest by the IHC illegal on 9 May.

 

Despite being granted bail, Khan returned to his Lahore home fearing further arrest. The IHC ordered the release of PGI leaders Malika Bukhari and Ali Muhammad Khan after declaring their arrest illegal. PTI leaders were arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960 following violent protests in the country following Khan’s arrest.
