New Delhi: India and Pakistan have renewed the agreement on the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor for the next five years. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has given this information. He has said that the Modi government will continue to facilitate our Sikh community’s access to their holy places.
What is Kartarpur Sahib?
Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara is known as Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. This is the main religious place of Sikhs because Guru Nanak Dev spent the last years of his life here. Nanak Ji spent his life here for 16 years. Later Guru Nanak Dev left his body at this place. After which Gurdwara Darbar Sahib was built here.
This place falls in the Narowal district of Punjab, Pakistan. Kartarpur is situated here. This place is 120 kilometers away from Lahore and just three kilometers away from the India-Pakistan border.
Controversy also came to the fore in November 2023
In November 2023, a case of playing with the sentiments of the Sikh community came to light in Pakistan. The Gurudwara located in Kartarpur Sahib here was desecrated. A liquor and non-vegetarian party was held at a distance of just 20 feet from the Darshani Deorhi of the Gurudwara of Kartarpur Sahib. Many videos of this party also surfaced.
In the video, people were seen dancing in a drunken state. There was a table of non-vegetarian food in the pandal. There was a lot of anger in the Sikh community after the video of the party surfaced. This party was hosted by Mohammad Abu Bakar Aftab Qureshi, CEO of Pakistan’s Project Management Unit.
DC of Narowal, Pakistan Mohammad Sharukh, police officials, and more than 80 people from different communities attended the party. Also present at the party was yellow-turbaned Sikh Ramesh Singh Arora, former MPA of Narowal and ambassador of Kartarpur Corridor. Not only this, but Kartarpur Sahib’s Head Granthi Giani Gobind Singh also attended the party.
