New Delhi: Protests were seen in many parts of the country over the BBC documentary. Then the BBC has been summoned in the hearing of the defamation case in the Delhi High Court. The summons alleges that the documentary on Prime Minister Modi affects India’s reputation, including the judiciary and the office of Prime Minister.

The BBC has been summoned
Justice Dutta of the Delhi High Court said during the hearing that the BBC has been summoned in a case filed by Gujarat-based NGO Justice on Trial and will be heard in September. The court said that the documentary on Prime Minister Modi is a complete caste slur on the reputation of the country and the judiciary and there is a charge of defamation against the Prime Minister. So that notice can be issued to the respondents.

The documentary brought the country into disrepute
Harish Salve, a senior lawyer for the NGO, argued that the two-part documentary had brought the country, including the judiciary, into disrepute. The trial court recently issued summons to BBC, Wikimedia Foundation and Internet Archive in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Vinay Kumar Singh. It demanded a ban on the publication of controversial documentaries or any other material related to RSS and Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
