Australia’s Moody said surprised by Suryakumar’s ‘impossible’ hit, never seen such a shot

Yesterday i.e. on Friday the match was played between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. Mumbai Indians star batsman Suryakumar Yadav scored his first century in the Indian Premier League on Friday night. Suryakumar, who made a name for himself in the league with his explosive hitting, waited 4053 days for his maiden IPL hundred. He brought up his three-figure score on the last ball of the innings in just 49 deliveries. Suryakumar showed a variety of shots during his innings, but his six in the last over of the innings against Mohammed Shami surprised many. Such was the greatness of the hit that Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket, tried to imitate the shot while sitting near the dugout.

Suryakumar lifts the ball at short third

Shami lofts the ball outside off and Suryakumar deliberately lifts the ball at short third. Initially it looked like he was aiming for a ground hit, but Suryakumar flicked his wrist too hard to send it over the boundary line for a six.

Former Australia star player Tom Moody was impressed by the shot and said that he had never seen a batsman achieve such a feat in his entire life. Referring to the shot after fellow specialist Amol Majumdar had described Suryakumar as ‘impossible’ to bowl, Moody said he was amazed by the batsman’s guts to hit. “I don’t think I have ever seen a six over third man with a vertical bat. I have seen horizontal hits, cut shots going over third man. I’ve never seen a vertical six down the middle of the bat, I’ve seen a thick edged fly. Never seen anything like this before in my life!” Moody said. He also said that I have seen about 10 million balls in my lifetime in all forms of the game, and I have never seen anything like it. It was totally peppermint.

Australian players were surprised by the shot and Rohit Sharma also praised Suryakumar Yadav

Moody wasn’t the only one surprised by this shot. Ian Bishop, who is currently on commentary duty in the IPL, termed the shot as ridiculous. This will always be known to me as “The Shot”. That’s ridiculous on the part of Skyny.” In the presentation ceremony, Rohit Sharma also praised the brilliant innings of Suryakumar Yadav. We wanted to do a right-left combination, but Sky came in and said, ‘No, he wants to go in.’ You can sit back and be proud but not with him.
