Are mosquitoes attracted to a specific body odor at night? Scientists experimented with smell

There is no one who has not experienced the tyranny of mosquitoes. Some are bitten less by mosquitoes and some are bitten more in the same room. American scientists have revealed the smell in the human body that attracts mosquitoes. According to him, mosquitoes are attracted to the smell of human body due to certain acids found in cheese, milk, cream and curd.

Researchers from the Johns Hopkins Research Institute and School of Medicine have published a research paper in collaboration with the Macha Research Trust in Zambia. It mentions an experiment that what kind of smell of human body attracts mosquitoes. For this, the researchers used a cage full of African malaria mosquitoes. However, these malaria mosquitoes were not infected. As part of the study, 6 people participated, all of whom were housed in a tent. From here the breath and body odor was carried to the mosquito cage through a long pipe.

The research concluded that mosquitoes are more attracted to airborne carboxylic acids, including conjugated butyric acid such as Limburger. According to a CNN report, carboxylic acids are attracted to odors. Whereas mosquitoes are scared by a chemical called eucalyptol which is derived from the plant. Dr Edgar Simulundu, who was involved in the study, said that there is a correlation between the chemicals present in the body odor of different people and the attraction of mosquitoes to the smell.

Doing more research on this, they are doing research on what can be done to avoid mosquitoes. Equally important is how much can be done by changing diet or reducing the amount of external acids that are particularly attractive to mosquitoes. Mosquito-borne diseases kill two million people every year. 55 thousand children cannot see the second anniversary of their birth. Apart from the fact that Europe and some regions of the world have become malaria free, the world is plagued by malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Despite the availability of drugs and treatment for malaria, the death rate is high in African countries.
