Tain Accident in Andhra Pradesh: A Tragic Incident in Vijayanagaram

Introduction

In a tragic incident that unfolded in the state of Andhra Pradesh, a dreadful train accident reminiscent of Odisha’s Balasore occurred. Two trains collided, resulting in four carriages of a passenger train derailing and falling off the tracks. This unfortunate accident claimed the lives of nine individuals. The passenger train was en route from Visakhapatnam to Rayagada when it was struck from behind by another train. This calamity prompted a night-long rescue operation and raised questions about how such a significant mishap could transpire.

How Did the Balasore-like Train Accident Happen in Andhra Pradesh?

The East Coast Railway (ECOR) sheds light on the accident, attributing it to a probable human error. Vishwajeet Sahu, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the East Coast Railway, stated that “this accident likely occurred due to human error, where the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger Special Train overshot the signal.”

What Is Signal Overshooting?

Explaining the term ‘signal overshooting,’ Vishwajeet Sahu clarified that it occurs when a train crosses a red signal instead of stopping. He further pointed out that the train behind had moved ahead of the signal, and an investigation will determine the cause of this deviation. The collision involved the Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train (Train Number 08532) and the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger train (Train Number 08504). As a result of the accident, two carriages from behind the Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train and the locomotive of the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger train derailed.

Cancellation of 12 Trains Due to the Accident

Vishwajeet Sahu, Chief Public Relations Officer of the East Coast Railway, further informed, “Due to this accident, 12 trains have been canceled, and the routes of 15 trains have been diverted. Additionally, 7 trains have been partially canceled. Provision has been made for buses to ensure that passengers do not get stranded in the region. We have also partially restored the tracks.” The rescue operation in Vijayanagaram continued throughout the night, but the operation was complicated by the darkness.

Conclusion

The tragic train accident in Andhra Pradesh serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols and signal guidelines on the railway. Investigations will uncover the precise details of the incident, shedding light on any lapses or errors that contributed to this calamity. The cancellation and diversion of train routes impact travelers, and efforts to alleviate their inconveniences are ongoing.
