An average of 26 people die of heart attacks and 25 of cancer every day in Mumbai.

Mumbai: About 26 people died due to heart attack in Mumbai in the year 2022. While 25 patients die of cancer every day, the municipal corporation got this information in response to an application made under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

There is also information that the number of deaths due to the impact of Covid in Mumbai has reduced. However, 10,289 people died in 2020 and 11,105 in 2022 due to Covid.

City Health Department Officer Dr. Mangala Gomre informed that many patients have died due to tuberculosis (TB) in Mumbai. However, this mortality rate is gradually coming down. In 2018, 4,940 patients died of TB, while this number is expected to drop to 3,281 in 2022. At present TB is being treated well all over India including Mumbai. Due to such modern medical facilities, TB patients die less today than ten years ago.

Emeritus Professor of Cardiology Department of KEM Hospital Dr. Expressing concern, Prafulla Kerkar said that today the young generation is becoming a victim of heart attack all over the world including Mumbai. Many physical and mental problems arise due to the undisciplined lifestyle of today’s young generation. Less walking, lack of healthy diet, insufficient sleep, smoking etc increase the risk of heart disease.
