The release of Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ coincided with the highly anticipated Hindi film ‘Gadar 2.’ Surprisingly, ‘OMG 2’ managed to achieve a substantial opening day figure, indicating a positive start driven by favorable reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations. The movie’s opening day earnings stood at Rs 10.26 crore in the domestic market. The cast, including Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, contributed to this impressive performance. Both ‘OMG 2,’ headlined by Akshay Kumar, and ‘Gadar 2,’ featuring Sunny Deol, were launched on August 11. Despite receiving an A rating, Akshay Kumar’s latest release garnered substantial attention during its opening weekend. The Hindi-speaking audience for ‘OMG 2’ constituted 37.53 percent of the total viewership on Friday. Notable trade analyst Taran Adarsh reported the official box office earnings for the movie. Despite being affected by the ‘Gadar 2’ wave, ‘#OMG2’ outperformed expectations. The film experienced better occupancy rates at prime multiplexes during evening and night showings, hinting at strong growth over the weekend. The opening day collection amounted to Rs 10.26 crore within India.

Although Akshay Kumar’s film didn’t match the initial success of ‘Gadar 2,’ it secured the eighth highest opening of 2023. While not extraordinary, the opening day statistics for ‘OMG 2’ surpassed the Rs 2.5 crore collected by Akshay’s earlier release, ‘Selfiee,’ earlier in the year. Additionally, ‘OMG 2’ faces competition from Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer.’
