Washington: Indian tech workers who came to the US on H-1B visas are becoming increasingly worried about their job losses. Professionals working on this visa have to leave the US within 60 days of leaving the job. This is the reason that along with them, the family members are also having sleepless nights. Their children born in America will also have to go there.
The Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) has issued a statement on Friday saying that the biggest concern is those who have very little time left. He has said that US Citizenship and Immigration Services is considering his appeal to extend the current time window to 180 days. Although it will take time. Due to this, there will be no option left but to return these professionals who have completed the stipulated period till now.
FIIDS said that around 2.5 lakh such professionals have lost their jobs in the US since last year. This number could grow even further, as Meta recently indicated. A large number of these are of Indians. If they do not find another employer to file their H1B visa within 60 days, they will be forced to leave the US.
