Normal life in the country has come to a standstill due to the strike of railway workers in Britain. The biggest strike in 30 years, out of 20,000 trains, only 4,500 ran. There is a demand from the employees that salaries and allowances should be increased and job security should be ensured. But talks with railway companies on these demands have not been successful so far. Due to this, the workers have threatened to intensify the strike.

Queue of trains seen at London station

Queues of trains were seen at stations in central London on Tuesday morning but there were no drivers or other staff. The railway workers’ strike also resulted in fewer people leaving their homes, leaving the city streets more empty than usual. The workers have announced that they will go on full strike on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays this week. 40,000 railway sweepers, signal, maintenance workers and station workers will participate in the strike. This will be the biggest strike of the Railways so far.

Rail network in Britain stalled

The strike disrupted commuters, and reduced some facilities to emergency workers only. London Underground services were also affected by the strike. UK Transport Secretary Grant Shepps said the strike could cause “big problems”. In that case, only 20% of the services will be operational.

‘Staff Union Responsible’

Grant Shepps blamed employee unions for the strike. He said that after the Corona epidemic, the number of passengers in trains had not reached the previous level. Due to this the train companies are suffering huge losses. They are seeking financial help from the government to mitigate this problem and reduce the cost and staff. But instead of realizing the compulsion of those companies, the trade unions have started the strike.

‘Government not taking any action’

Lynch, president of the Railway Employees Union, said the government was working to make rules and regulations for railway companies. In such a situation, they should come forward to solve the crisis and find the right solution keeping in mind the jobs of the employees. He accused PM Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party of deliberately failing to take appropriate action to malign the Labor Party and labor unions, and of watching the spectacle from afar.

talks failed between the two sides

The union said that inflation is increasing in the country. Inflation is expected to increase similarly, while the wages of employees remain the same. Talks between trade unions and rail companies on Monday to end the strike (Britain’s biggest rail strike) failed. There has been no meeting between the two sides since then. People from Wales, Lincoln, Scotland and the Cornwall region had difficulty commuting.
