Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan elected new President of UAE
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will be the new President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to reports, the 61-year-old leader has been elected the third President of the country. The post fell vacant following the death of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed on Friday. According to the news agency, the Federal Supreme Council of the UAE has elected Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, as the new President. The council met on Saturday at the Al-Musharraf Palace in Abu Dhabi under the chairmanship of Sheikh Mohammed, the ruler of Dubai. In which the new president was elected. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE, has congratulated Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
40 days of state mourning in UAE
Expressing grief over the passing of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs of the United Arab Emirates has announced 40 days of mourning in the country. Apart from this, all ministries and private sector will remain closed for three days.
Mourning was observed in India today
Today is a day of state mourning in India in honor of Sheikh Khalifa. During this, the national flag was flown at half-mast on government buildings. There will be no official entertainment program today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday condoled the death of late President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He said that relations between India and UAE have prospered under his leadership. Nahyan was 73 years old. Sheikh Khalifa has served as the President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi since 3 November 2004.
