Pakistan surrounded India on the pretext of OIC in UN, got a befitting reply
New York, June 21 (His). When Pakistan surrounded India in the United Nations on the pretext of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), it was given a befitting reply from India.
According to the information, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, while referring to the statement of the OIC in the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, raised the issue of alleged remarks against Prophet Muhammad in India. He expressed concern over controversial remarks by some leaders of India’s ruling party. He said incidents related to Islamophobia hurt the sentiments of more than 1.5 billion Muslims and it is misused in the name of freedom of expression. He mentioned the incident in India as well as the demonstrations in Sweden and other similar incidents. He said the OIC is concerned about such provocative incidents.
After Pakistan’s statement, India’s Ambassador to the United Nations TS Tirumurti hit back at Pakistan, saying that India, which believes in democracy and pluralism, promotes cultural tolerance and respects all religions and cultures within the ambit of the Constitution. The issue of insult to any religion will be dealt with within our legal framework. Criticizing the mention of India by the OIC, he said that India rejects selective opposition from outside. He termed such protests as motivated by malice and promoting a divisive agenda.
