Marcos family seizes power in Philippines: Marcos Jr wins

The Marcos family has returned to power 36 years after Ferdinand Marcos Jr. won the presidential election in the Philippines. Dictator Ferdinand Marcos had to step down overnight in the People’s Power Revolution a few years ago. People strongly opposed his dictatorship and accumulation of crores of wealth and agitated across the country to oust him from power. The results of Monday’s presidential election were announced, in which Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr., the son of a former dictator, was elected. Marcos Jr’s thumping victory has silenced the opposition camp. The question is how did he get re-elected.

The dominance of the Marcos family

Marcos Jr. has been elected president. His son Sandro has been elected a member of the House of Representatives. His sister Amy’s son Matthew Menotok is set to become governor of Ilocos Norte province. One relative will become the vice governor and the other relative will become the mayor of Laog city. Marcos Jr. employs a cunning strategy to regain power and regain the family’s lost prestige.
