Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Mohamed Ahmed has condemned the attack in Oromia as a “horrific act”. However, no details have been given about the incident. Ahmed said attacks on innocent civilians, illegal and destruction of livelihoods by outside forces were not justified. The Oromia are the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia. There is political competition between them as well as other ethnic groups. The neglect of the central government has created a rift in them. Also, the attack was linked to the conflict in the northern part of the Tigre. The conflict began in November 2020 and has claimed thousands of lives so far.
