World Yoga Day is being celebrated all over the world today, but a shocking news has come out from Maldives. The mob attacked during a Yoga Day event organized by the Maldivian government and the Indian Cultural Centre.

 

 

The event was held this morning at the National Football Stadium in the capital Male. After this the mob attacked there. The police had to use tear gas shells to nab the thugs. When people were doing yoga in the morning, the spectators stormed the stadium.

The policemen stationed on the spot had fired tear gas shells to control the crowd with a flag in hand, but the police had to use force without controlling it. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of Maldives organized a yoga and meditation session in collaboration with the Indian Cultural Center on Tuesday. According to a video of the incident that went viral on social media, the attackers were attacking the yoga practitioners and the police was intervening. Some had sticks in their hands, while others intended to strike with flag sticks.

An inquiry has been ordered into the attack on the occasion of the festival of peace and health. Expressing concern over the incident, Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident. “Our government is deeply concerned about this incident,” he tweeted. He said that the police have started investigation into the incident that happened at Galolu Stadium this morning. Those responsible will soon be brought under the purview of the law.
