Varanasi, 24 January (HS). On Thursday, on the Basant Panchami festival, the celebration of Tilak of Kashipuradhipati Baba Vishwanath will be held at the Mahant’s residence of the temple at Tedhineem.

According to folk beliefs, Tilakotsav of Lord Shiva was performed on Basant Panchami before the marriage of Shiva on Mahashivratri festival. The residents of Kashi perform the ritual of Tilak according to tradition. On Thursday, after Mangala Aarti in the morning at Mahant’s residence, the ethos of Tilakotsav will be edited throughout the day as per tradition. Brahmins will perform milk anointing of Baba along with the recitation of hymns of all the four Vedas and after special worship, fruits will be offered as Vijayayukta Thandai.

During this there will be Mangal Geet by women. In the evening, Baba Vishwanath (royal-swarup) will give darshan to the devotees in the form of a bridegroom. In the evening, according to tradition, Kashi residents will complete the Tilakotsav ritual amid the auspicious sound of Shehnai and the sound of drums. Social worker Keshav Jalan will offer Tilak to Baba on behalf of the residents of Kashi by taking the material of Tilak in seven plates. When the Tilakotsav procession reaches Mahant’s residence, the ceremony of Tilakotsav will be completed in the presence of Mahant Dr. Vice Chancellor Tiwari.

Mahant Dr. Vice-Chancellor Tiwari told on Tuesday that on Basant Panchami, the Tilkotsav of Panchbadan silver statue of Baba Vishwanath will be held at Tedhineem residence. The event will start with Mangla Aarti of Panchbadan Silver idol of Baba Vishwanath from 4 am to 4:30 am before Tilkotsav. In the early morning from 6 to 8 o’clock eleven Vedic Brahmins will offer fruits to Baba after anointing Baba with recitation of hymns from all the four Vedas. Devotees will have darshan of Baba Vishwanath’s silver idol after afternoon bhog aarti from 5 pm onwards. Baba’s Tilakotsav will be done at seven o’clock according to the lagna.
