Varanasi, August 02 (H.S.). On the Panchami i.e. Nagpanchami of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month, worship of Nagdevta was performed from house to house by law. Panchamrit, Ghrita, Lotus, Milk, Lava were offered to him symbolically by worshiping the image of Nagdevta on the festival.
According to the tradition on the festival, the devotees who reached the Shiva temples with a plate of worship, offered bel leaves, dhatura, flowers, turmeric rice, milk etc. to Lord Shiva and the snake wrapped around his neck. On the occasion of Nag Panchami, there was an influx of devotees to have the darshan of Kashi Puradhipati Baba Vishwanath. Kanwariyas and devotees queued up early in the morning to go to the court for Baba’s Jalabhishek on the festival. After worshiping on the festival, women offered food to Nagdevta by making dishes in their homes.
After this the members of the family ate the dish in a cheerful atmosphere. At the same time, on this occasion, the planets Rahu-Ketu along with the snake deity were worshiped in many houses for the peace of the family members. Before this, in the early morning, take the younger guru, the elder guru, nag lo Bhai nag…. Sellers kept roaming in every street to sell the picture of Nag Devta with a hankering. People with great fervor were engaged in reciting the picture of the snake deity, buying lava from the children and worshiping them.
According to the tradition, preparations for the performance of wrestling, riots, mahuvar etc. continued in the afternoon. The snake charmers were able to make a lot of offerings by taking the snake in the basket and making it visible to the people from street to street. The akhada is also buzzing on the festival. In the akharas, young and old wrestlers were engaged in the preparations for wrestling and other physical strength competitions after the worship of the soil. The youths were performing punishment meetings in the akhadas to make them hot. This view was seen in all the small and big akhadas including the city’s main arena Ramsingh, Gayaseth, Pandaji’s arena, Akhara Manmandir, Babua Pandey arena, Akhara Bada Ganesh, Akhara Jaggu Seth, Akhara Ramkund, Lalkuti gymnasium, Kalibari, Akhara Gabinath, Arena pillow. According to tradition, on Nagpanchami, crowds are gathering to worship Nageshwar Mahadev located at Nagkup located in Jaitpura. After the Mangala Aarti in the temple, the doors were opened for the common devotees only at four o’clock in the morning. After this, devotees gathered to offer lava and milk in the court of Nageshwar Mahadev.
In the evening, there will be a gathering of Sanskrit scholars for debate at this place. Sanskrit scholars will participate in the debate organized by the Nagakup Shastrarth Samiti.
