The challenge in front of McCullum to get the England Test team on the winning track

Mumbai: With Brendon McCullum appointed as the head coach of England’s Test team, his biggest challenge is to turn around the fortunes of the team, which has won just one of its last 17 Test matches.

England will play a three-Test series against New Zealand on June 2. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) strategic advisor Andrew Strauss stressed the need for coordination between McCullum and new captain Stokes. ECB Strategic Advisor Andrew Strauss was quoted by the ICC as saying, “The most important thing is how the coordination between McCullum and Ben Stokes will work.” The relationship between them will be necessary for the team. To this will be added the fact that former New Zealand captain McCullum would also like to implement his blueprint, which could prove beneficial for the team.

McCullum had said during his captaincy tenure that, when we have a good mindset and a positive attitude towards everyone, then we can show aggression towards the front. When we come to the crease as a team, we have to think about defeating the opposition. Apart from the selection, McCullum will also have to decide who lands at which number in the batting order.

Stokes will bat at number six and Joe Root at number four, but the batting order of the remaining top seven players in England is not yet clear. It will be important for England to pick the top three for the series, as Jonny Bairstow will take over as wicketkeeper in place of Ben Fox.
