Silver medal for India in mixed team badminton event

India had to be content with a silver medal after losing 1-3 to Malaysia in the final of the mixed team badminton event at the Commonwealth Games. India’s singles players flopped against the lower order players. Seventh seeded pair of Satwik Sairaj and Chirag Shetty went down 18-21, 15-21 to Malaysia’s Ting Fong Aaron Chia and Wu Yis Soh in their opening match.

Disappointing presence of non-Indus shuttlers

India’s two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu drew 1-1 for India but struggled to beat world number 60 Jin Wei Goh 22-20, 21-17. World number 13 Kidambi Srikanth’s performance was disappointing. After losing the first game 19-21 to Ng TJ Yong, Srikanth made a comeback in the second game to win 21-6. However, they suffered a 16–21 defeat in the deciding game as Malaysia took a 2–1 lead. In women’s doubles, the pair of Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated Pearl Tan and Muraleedharan Thinna 21-18, 21-17 to win the gold medal for Malaysia.
