Shiksha, Anamika and Jasmine reach the pre-quarterfinals of IBA Women’s World Boxing
Istanbul, May 13 (H.S.). Indian boxers Shiksha (54kg), Jasmine (60kg) and Anamika (50kg) entered the pre-quarterfinals of the 12th edition of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.
Shiksha, who faced Argentina’s Herrera Milagros Rosario, displayed great temperament and skill and won by unanimous decision without breaking a sweat.
Shiksha will next face Mongolia’s Oyuntsetseg Yesugen on Sunday in the pre-quarterfinals.
Jasmine, who hails from Bhiwani, faced a tough challenge from Thailand’s two-time Youth Asian Champion Porntip Buapa. The Indian boxer took some time to assess his opponent’s strategy in the first round and came back strongly in the final two rounds to win by a 4-1 split decision. Jasmine will take on Australia’s Angela Harris in a round of 16 match on Sunday.
Anamika faced Romania’s Eugenia Engel. Both the boxers got off to an aggressive start but Anamika, thanks to her quick footwork and movement, made excellent punches to seal an easy 5-0 victory.
Anamika will next face World Championship bronze medalist Christie Lee Harris of Australia in the round of 16 on Sunday.
The competition, which marks the 20th anniversary of the IBA Women’s World Championship, will be played till May 20.
