Ronaldo Singh’s name on the last day of Asian Track Cycling Championship
New Delhi, 23 June (H.S.). The last day of the Asian Track Cycling Championship 2022 was named after India’s Ronaldo Singh, who won a silver medal in the senior category sprint event with a historic performance. This was his third medal in the championship. Earlier, he had won bronze medals in the 1km time trial and team sprint events.
On Wednesday, he gave a tough fight to veteran Japanese rider Kento Yamasaki. Yamasaki defeated Ronaldo in two races back-to-back to win the gold medal. Andrey Chuge of Kazakhstan won the bronze medal in this event.
After winning the silver medal on his birthday, Ronaldo said, “My goal was to win the gold medal, but I am happy to get the silver medal for the first time, it is the best performance of my career so far and in every tournament I have improved my technique It is the most important and with the blessings of my family I have achieved it.
Japan topped the medal tally with 18 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze medals in the 41st Senior and 28th Junior Asian Track and 10th Para Track Cycling Championships held at the IGI Sports Complex here.
Korea finished second with 12 gold, 14 silver and 3 bronze medals, while Kazakhstan finished third with 4 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze.
At the same time, the Indian cycling team ended its campaign by winning 23 medals including 2 gold, 6 silver and 15 bronze in the championship, which is the best performance by any Indian cycling team so far.
