Following Ronaldo’s goalscoring record, Portugal made a winning start to the FIFA World Cup by defeating Ghana 3–2 in a high-voltage encounter. Not a single goal was scored in the first 64 minutes. However, after scoring four goals in 15 minutes, there was a sensation. With one minute left in the match, Ghana scored a goal to put the pressure on Portugal. However, in the end Portugal won 3–2.

Ronaldo converted the penalty kick in the 65th minute and became the first player in the world to score in five World Cups. However, instead of Ghana coming back, Andre Ayew’s goal equalized in the 73rd minute. Joo Felix scored in the 78th minute and Rafael Leao in the 80th minute to give Portugal a 3–1 lead. Ghana’s Bukhari scored in the 89th minute to put the pressure on Portugal. However, Portugal eventually won 3–2. Four yellow cards were shown to Ghana and two to Portugal.
