MoC approves financial assistance for training of Bajrang Punia in America

New Delhi, 23 June (H.S.). The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) of the Union Sports Ministry has approved financial assistance for the 35-day training camp of Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia in the US.

The Ministry’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) will finance the daily costs of Bajrang’s travel, boarding and training camp in Michigan, USA from 25 June to 30 July (35 days) and will also cover the expenses of his personal coach and physiotherapist.

The training time in USA will help Bajrang prepare for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and World Championships.

During the meeting, the MoC also approved financial assistance for the purchase of two T20 ProTeam Look TT track bikes for TOPS Development cyclists Ronaldo Singh and David Beckham.

T20 bikes are the new top-of-the-range track bikes that were also used by the French national team at the Tokyo Olympics. The bike is said to be lighter, tighter and aerodynamically more efficient than its predecessors. The mentioned bikes will also help in preparing the athletes for the Commonwealth Games to be held this year.

In addition to the above, MoC also approved financial assistance for other TOPS athletes.

Table tennis player Sharath Kamal received financial support for support staff fees, fitness training, physiotherapy, rehab and fitness testing and nutritionist fees.

Shooter Anish was provided financial assistance under TOPS for overseas training and competition at the Shooting Sports Centre, Germany for 20 days. Anish wants to train under pistol coach Ralf Schuman in Germany and prepare for the upcoming competitions.
