KKR-SRH clash, start of ‘death race’ of playoffs in IPL from today

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings and five-time winners Mumbai Indians have been knocked out of the play-offs. Gujarat Titans have qualified for the play-offs and a ‘death race’ has begun between seven teams for the remaining three places, with the first match being played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday.

Struggle after losing four consecutive matches

Hyderabad, who are struggling to regain momentum after losing four consecutive matches, will have to overcome their bowling problems in the match against Kolkata. After winning five matches in a row, four defeats in a row have ruined Hyderabad’s hopes of reaching the playoffs. They have 10 points from 11 matches and need to win the remaining three matches to reach the playoffs. The biggest threat is for the Kolkata team. Two-time champions Kolkata are on the verge of being knocked out of the playoffs as four teams have more than 14 points. Kolkata currently have 10 points from 12 matches and if they win the remaining two matches, they will have 14 points. Only a miracle can give him a ticket to the playoffs.

Player injuries

Injuries to their star bowlers have been the main reason for Hyderabad’s defeat in the previous matches. Washington Sundar and Natarajan are injured. Fast bowler Umran Malik could not perform consistently. In the last four matches against Hyderabad, the rival teams have scored 190-plus. Hyderabad have good batsmen to bat but skipper Kane Williams needs to play a captain’s innings. The Kolkata team has had to pay a heavy price for the constant change in the playing XI in every match. Not participating in the powerplay is one of Kolkata’s biggest weaknesses. Venkatesh Iyer has made a good comeback once he was dropped from the team. Kolkata is also grappling with the problem of players getting injured. Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the league and Umesh Yadav missed the last match due to a hamstring strain.
