India created history.  Made in the final of Thomas Cup after 73 years

Bangkok, May 14 (H.S.). The Indian men’s badminton team made a historic performance by entering the final of the prestigious Thomas Cup. In a tough semi-final match played on Friday, India defeated Denmark 3-2 to enter the final.

The Indian team displayed the best of strength and perseverance in a thrilling match against the mighty Denmark. India are now assured of at least one silver medal and will play Indonesia in the final. India have entered the final of the Thomas Cup for the first time since the tournament began 73 years ago.

In the first match, India’s Lakshya Sen faced Denmark’s famous player Viktor Axelsen. The Danish players lived up to their reputation and World No. 9 Sen eventually lost 21-13, 21-13 in straight games.

After this, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Mathias Christiansen 21-18, 21-23, 22-20 in the doubles match.

Former world No. 1 Srikant Kidambi beat Anders Antonsen 21-18, 12-21, 21-15 in the third match to take India 2-1.

In the fourth match, the Indian pair of Krishna Prasad and Vishnuvardhan were defeated by Anders Skarup Rasmussen and Friedrich Sogaard 21-14, 21-13 in a 39-minute match to level Denmark 2-2.

In the fifth and crucial match, HS Prannoy defeated Rasmus Gemke 13-21, 21-9, 21-12 to give India a memorable 3-2 win.
