India’s two medals in boxing, Neetu and Husamuddin in the semi-finals
India’s two medals in boxing have been confirmed. Indian women’s boxer Neetu Ghanghas defeated Nicole Clyde of Northern Ireland in a one-sided match in the quarterfinals of the 48 kg weight category. In men’s boxing, Mohammad Husamuddin of India defeated Namibia’s Trygan Devello 4-1 in the 57kg weight category to enter the last four. This ensured India’s two medals. Notably, in boxing, bronze is awarded to both the boxers who lost in the semi-finals.
28-year-old male boxer Mohammad Husamuddin had won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast four years ago. He fought hard for victory against Devalo of Namibia. Now he is considered as a strong contender to enter the finals.
21-year-old Neetu Ghangal from Dhana district of Bhiwani in Haryana has found a place in the Indian team in the 48kg weight category after veteran boxer Mary Kom withdrew due to injury. He lived up to the expectations of the fans and made it to the semi-finals.
