New Delhi: Smriti Mandhana (74*) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (56*) struck brilliant innings to help the Indian women’s cricket team beat West Indies by 56 runs in the South Africa Women’s T20 International triangular match. Series was given on Monday In this match played at Buffalo Park in East London, India won the toss and decided to bat first. India scored 167 runs losing 4 wickets in 20 overs. In response, the Caribbean team could only manage 111 runs losing 4 wickets in 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana was adjudged player of the match for her brilliant innings.

Chasing the target of 168 runs given by India, the West Indies team was seen on the backfoot in front of the spinners. India’s Deepti Sharma made both West Indies openers Brittany Cooper and Rashada Williams (8) their victims.

Excellent partnership of Mandhana-Harmanpreet

Earlier, Smriti Mandhana and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored brilliant half-centuries as India posted a score of 167/2. Batting first after winning the toss, Mandhana and Yashika Bhatia (18) made a brilliant start with a 33-run partnership. Ramhark broke the partnership by getting Bhatia out caught by wicketkeeper Williams. From here Mandhana took the score past 50 runs with Harleen Deol (12). Bruce gave another blow to India by dismissing Deol LBW. After this Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur took the lead. Both made a century partnership of 115 runs for the third wicket.
