Gurdeep Singh, Commonwealth Games 2022: Gurdeep Singh beats rivals, wins bronze in weightlifting; India’s medal table seventeen
Commonwealth Games 2022: Gurdeep Singh of India won the bronze medal in the 109 kg weight category of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship. Meanwhile, he hoisted India’s tricolor in Birmingham by lifting a total of 390 kg including 167 kg in snatch and 223 kg in clean and jerk. India has so far won 17 medals in this competition. This includes five gold, six silver and six bronze medals. Interestingly, India has won the maximum number of medals in weightlifting events.
Who won the gold medal?
Indian weightlifter Gurdeep Singh has won a bronze medal in the 109+ kg weight category. He lifted 167 kg in three attempts in the snatch round. After this he lifted 223 kg in clean and jerk. In this way, he won the bronze medal by lifting a total of 390 kg. Pakistan’s Muhammad Noah Dastgir Butt won the gold medal by lifting a total of 405 kg. On the other hand, David Andrew of New Zealand won the silver medal by lifting a total of 394 kg.
India’s strong performance in weightlifting
This is India’s 10th medal in weightlifting at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. India won a record nine medals at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
