The Cricket World Cup was started in 1975. It was played in the 60 over format at that time. The final of the World Cup was played today i.e. on 21st June between Australia and West Indies Cricket. Under the leadership of Clive Lloyd, West Indies became the first world champions to beat Australia.

West Indies scored 291 runs on the basis of Clive Lloyd’s century

The 1975 Cricket World Cup was played in the format of 60-60 overs. Australia also reached the final along with West Indies. The two teams met at Lord’s on 21 June 1975. Australia won the toss and decided to field first. Lloyd scored 102 runs in 85 balls with the help of 12 fours and 2 sixes. Rohan Kanhai also contributed 55 runs. Lloyd and Rohan put on a vital partnership of 149 runs for the fourth wicket. Experienced batsman Vivian Richards, who contributed to the team’s victory many times, was able to score only 5 runs in the final. It was bowled by Gilmore. Gilmore took 5 wickets for 48 runs. With the help of which West Indies team scored 291 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 60 overs.

Australia were all out for 274 runs

Chasing 292 runs, Australia did not have a good start. There was a partnership of 25 runs for the first wicket. There is a half-century partnership between captain Ian Chappell (62) and opener Alan Turner (40). After this, wickets kept falling at regular intervals and in the 59th over, the entire team was bundled out for 274 runs. Keith Boyce took 4 wickets for 50 runs in 12 overs.

Australia has won the World Cup for the most number of times

West Indies also won their second World Cup in 1979. Since then the World Cup has been hosted 12 times. Australia has won the World Cup 5 times. While the teams of India and West Indies have become champions twice. Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England have won the title once each. India won the title for the first time in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. In the year 2011, Mahendra Singh Dhoni once again made the team the champion.
