CWG 2022: Indian women’s hockey team ‘cheated’ in penalty shootout

The Indian women’s hockey team lost the semi-final match against Australia due to foul play in the penalty shootout. With this, India’s dream of winning the gold medal has been shattered. Now India has only chance to win bronze medal.

The semi-final match between the Indian women’s hockey team and Australia was played on Thursday night in the Commonwealth Games 2022 held in Birmidham, England. Indian women players had a great performance in this match. However, India lost the match due to a mistake by the referee and management. And the dream of winning the gold medal was shattered.

In this match, the Indian women players performed brilliantly and came back in the fourth quarter after defeating 1-0 in three quarters. Team’s star player Vandana Kataria scored in the 49th minute to ruin India’s hopes of reaching the final. After that India put up a brilliant defense in the last 10 minutes. Against a strong team like Australia, the Indian players stood like a wall and the match was drawn.

Now the match was to be decided by a penalty shootout. But due to the mistake of management here, India suffered heavy losses and lost that match. Actually, Indian goalkeeper and captain Savita Punia successfully saved Australia’s first shot. But it was not considered because the timer was not running. After this Australia got a chance to shoot the same again. But this time the Kangaroos made no mistake and scored. This incident demoralized the Indian players and India lost the match 3-0.
