ATK Mohun Bagan signs Australian defender Brendan Hamill

Kolkata, June 24 (H.S.). ATK Mohun Bagan have signed Australian A-League star defender Brendan Hamill ahead of the upcoming Indian Super Football League (ISL) 2022-23 season.

Born in Sydney, 29-year-old defender Hamill began his career playing in youth academies and lower division clubs in Australia and made his professional debut at Melbourne Heart FC (now rebranded as Melbourne City FC) in 2010.

After two years at Melbourne City FC, Hamill moved to Seongnam FC, the number one club in South Korea’s top division Football League, in 2012. He played for the club for two years but could not get the desired result there. He then returned to Australia and signed with A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers in 2014. Where he later became the captain of the Western Sydney Wanderers Club club. He stayed at this club for five years and scored 4 goals in 79 matches.

ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Juan Ferrando said in a statement, “Hamil is a player who helps build the game and who uses his experience to help the team in difficult defensive moments. He will prove to be an important player for the team.”

In 2019, Hamill joined the A-League club named Western United FC. Here he played 20 matches in two years for the club. Thereafter, he moved to Melbourne Victory Club in 2021 on a two-year deal, where he scored 3 goals in 18 matches.

He also represented the Australian national teams at under-17, under-20 and under-23 level and appeared in 30 matches in total. Hamill also participated in Asian Olympic qualifying matches for the senior team.

The 29-year-old Hamill has won several major trophies throughout his career, winning the coveted AFC Champions League trophy with Western Sydney Wanderers in 2014, and also, most recently, the FFA Cup in 2021 with Melbourne Victory.
