Why is there only half the circumambulation of Shiva’s sanctum? know the secret

People worship Lord Bholenath in Shiva temple. Milk, Panchamrit, Billipatra and Ganga water are offered on his linga form. Along with this, their lingam is decorated in different ways. Regular people after darshan of Lord Shiva make rounds of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and only half of it is done. Let’s know the secret behind it.

At the time of the consecration of the Shivling, the daily items like Ganga water, flowers, water, milk and Panchamrit pass through the Shivling and leave behind the sanctum sanctorum through a small narrow passage to the right. Which is known as Gaumukhi. Every liquid that comes out of it is considered holy and most people take it in the form of Charanamrit.

At the time of circumambulation of the sanctum sanctorum of Shiva temple, it should be done only till Gomukhi. One should never circumambulate while crossing this Gaumukhi. Since crossing this holy water is considered inauspicious, hence the circumambulation is done by turning back from there.

It is to be noted that whenever Lord Shiva is going to the temple and circumambulating the sanctum sanctorum, it is done only halfway.

There is a story related to this that once a Gandharva king was worshiping Lord Sadashiva and after worshiping got up to circumambulate the sanctum sanctorum and then while doing the circumambulation accidentally set foot on this cowmukhi.

This aroused the anger of Lord Bholenath and the Lord cursed this Gandharva king and destroyed all his powers. Since then only half the sanctum sanctorum is circumambulated in this way.
