Every day a person used to come to listen to the discourses of Kabir ji. One day he said to Sant Kabir ji, I listen to your discourses daily, but I do not understand the benefit of listening to your discourses daily. You tell me why you should listen to the same thing everyday?
Saint Kabir listened to the man and said nothing, picked up a hammer near him and hit a peg on the ground. After doing so, he resumed his work.
Seeing Kabir ji busy, the man left without saying anything. The next day he came back and asked the same question: What is the use of listening to us continuously?
Kabir Dasji did the same again. He took the hammer in his hand and hit it with the same peg. He said nothing. The young man thought that Kabir Dasji was still busy. Then he came back on the third day and asked that question. Kabir Dasji did the same again. He picked up the hammer and hit it with a peg.
This time the man got a little angry. He said that I have been asking you a question for three days, but you are not answering it. Why so?
Sant Kabir said, “Brother, I am answering your questions every day.” If I hit the hammer on this peg, its grip on the ground becomes stronger. If the peg is not strong, it breaks easily. Similarly, if we keep reading and listening to good things, then our thoughts also become positive. Bad thoughts start to fade away. Positive thinking helps us find solutions to difficult situations and achieve great things. That’s why we should read and listen to good stories everyday.
